Getting the Right Kitchen Lights

Whether you own your place or just renting, if you spend any time in the kitchen you’ll agree with me that the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house (if not at the top of the list). I truly believe this statement because that is the room in which you prepare your food, which is one of the bare necessities of life. Therefore, part of getting the kitchen right is having the right kind of lighting. In this kitchen lights guide, I’ll attempt to tackle this subject matter and hopefully provide some guidance to you readers.

The vital step to ensure that the lighting in your kitchen is suitable, is to plan things out. As obvious as this may sound, you will be surprised by the amount of people of there that mess this up completely. They would approach lighting positioning and installation in an ad-hoc manner, only realizing the errors of their ways when it’s all done, at which point it becomes an expensive endeavor to correct. You can easily translate this lesson to lighting in other parts of the house such as patio solar lights.

In your planning, you need to consider the size of your kitchen. I find that taking measurements and drawing up a rough floor plan diagram on a piece of paper helps me a lot. This way you can play around with positions of each lighting fixture on the diagram. The point is that you want to identify the right number of fittings in order to sufficiently illuminate the room. You want enough lights to cover each of the areas such as the stove, kitchen island and breakfast bar. But also, you don’t want too many lights that might end up to be superfluous.

Another aspect to take on board during your planning stage is to account for the layout of the kitchen. Nowadays, interior designers can come up with almost anything for a kitchen. It’s no longer just a square box. If your kitchen is not “standard”, then you need to be wary for the purpose of lighting positioning.
